SCHOOL OF CHOICE SESSION 1 – INTRODUCTION
Full day - Filmmakers Present The following is an outline of the first day of the program. This day is designed to give everybody involved a sound grounding in filmmaking terminology and practises. This full day, hands on workshop will be interactive and involve participants learning the craft towards the end goal of pitching an idea for their film to the group at large. From the beginning of the day participants will be working in their production groups containing students, community members and teachers.
PREPERATORY TASK: Before attending this first workshop all participants must complete the writing task.
OUTLINE OF DAY: 1.INTRODUCTION to project and welcoming of all participants (½ hr)
2.FILM ROLES / FILM GENRE – Activity exploring the differing roles involved in the different types of film making (½ hr)
3.PRACTICAL TECHNIQUE (1 hr)
Knowing the gear - Draw the camera 15 mins on each (Flip camera & JVC)
Cameras are dumb!

4.PRACTICAL CRAFT (1 hr)
Shot types, framing, production positioning, shooting script & clappers.
5.FILM MAKING PROCESS (½ hr)
Explaining the bigger picture of the film making process and what will be expected of each group in this program.
6.PRODUCTION EXERCISE (1 hr)
Shoot the script and storyboard provided.
7.REFLECTION / EVALUATION of shoot (1 hr)
Groups will present the footage they shot in the production exercises for the group at large to evaluate in a friendly manner. (10 minutes per group)
8.PITCH WITHIN GROUP (½ hr)
Each group share their writing task within their group. The group is to use this as a basis for deciding on what their final project will be about.
9.PITCH TO THE PROGRAM
Each group has 5 minutes to pitch their chosen idea to the large group and field questions.
